Relief and Rehabilitation of the Displaced in Social Violence
Letter to The Chairman National Human Rights Commission June 20, 2009
As you are aware, apart from foreign refugees in India, we have always had, dispersed throughout the country, persons displaced from their original homes and villages on account of social violence. For example, those displaced in Gujarat Genocide in the year 2002 are still living in make-shift shanties, unable to return to their villages or to claim their land, shop or home.
I feel that the rehabilitation of such displaced people should also be covered in the model bill under consideration of the government and I request you to take up this matter with the Ministry of Rural Development, which is piloting the bill.
